Samhain, meaning “Summer’s End” in Irish, is an ancient Celtic festival marking the end of summer and beginning of winter, celebrated on the evening of October 31 into November 1. It was believed that on that evening the boundary between the worlds of the dead and the living became thin, allowing spirits, fairies, and other supernatural beings to venture out into the night.
